INDIVIDUAL / SMALL GROUP VOLUNTEER SIGN-UP PROCESS

There is a 4 step process, detailed below, for becoming a individual volunteer, or small group of up to and including 4 people serving, at the Downtown Hope Center.

Fill-out and submit the volunteer application

form.  The form is located below.

1. FILL-OUT APPLICATION

The volunteer coordinator will call you to confirm your availability, service preferences and our current needs.

2. PHONE CALL &/OR EMAIL

Background check is performed.  By filling out and submitting the volunteer application form, you are authorizing a background check.

3. BACKGROUND CHECK

Your first scheduled service day/time is confirmed. This step may be combined with Step #2 Phone Call with Volunteer Coordinator.

4. SCHEDULE DAY/TIME

1. VOLUNTEER APPLIES

Each person volunteering, age 18 and over needs to fill out their own application form.

Each child volunteering needs to be accompanied by their parent or guardian, with a maximum ratio of one parent/guardian to 3 children, and listed on that parent/guardian's application form. Remember, if the total number of people, including children is 5 or more, you will need to follow the large group process mentioned at the top of this page.

SERVING TOGETHER IN A SMALL GROUP OR FAMILY (Group of 4 or less people, adults only)?

Each adult (18 years of age and older) is required to fill out their own form and consent to a background check.  Be sure to mention the other people you are serving with or the group you are a part of that is serving as a small group.

If you are looking to serve with your family, such as a spouse or adult children (over Age 18), all of you need to fill-out the form separately, and then just mention that you would like to serve together (and choose the same day/time and same area of service preferences).

SERVING WITH MINOR CHILDREN IN A SMALL GROUP OR FAMILY (Group of 4 or less people, including children)?

Go ahead and have each person age 18 years old or older fill-out an application form, mentioning the family or group you are serving with, and any parent/guardian serving alongside their kids need to list the children for whom they are responsible on their application, up to 4 children per adult.

You can fill out the individual, or groups of 4 or less, application here:

2. PHONE CALL OR EMAIL

In this step, we contact you, either by phone call or email, to discuss our needs and your preferences, what area would be a good fit and to confirm which service activity you will be participating in and what day/time, dependent on the background check.

3. BACKGROUND CHECK

In this step, we perform a background check to confirm your eligibility to volunteer at our facility for the service activities agreed to in the phone call or email.  If the particular service activity for which you are volunteering requires further vetting, they will be mentioned during the phone call or email, and occur during this step, Step #3.

4. SCHEDULE DAY/TIME

If a time was not scheduled during the initial phone call or email, or if the day/time changes, the volunteer coordinator will contact you after the background check to confirm the day/time of your volunteer shift.

This ends the Individual / Small Group Volunteer Process!
