FAQs

INEXPERIENCED IN THE KITCHEN, CLEANING OR DOING LAUNDRY?

Are you not confident in the kitchen, don’t know about chopping, or unsure about whether you are coordinated enough to learn?

No problem, DINNER SERVICE can be a great way to help you feel comfortable and familiar with volunteering in the kitchen. The dinner meals are already prepped, so you will spend more of your time serving meals!

Are you interested in learning kitchen safety, basic kitchen knife skills and sanitation standards while having a direct impact on feeding the homeless?

Then we recommend the FOOD PREP AND LUNCH SERVICE volunteer option!

In food prep and lunch service, you may process produce, like cutting up vegetables, for current and future meals as well as prepare sandwiches and serve them.

Are you unfamiliar with washing, drying, folding clothes or cleaning showers and interested in learning?

Then SHOWER HOUSE and CLOTHING SERVICE is for you! Come learn how to take care of clothing and how to clean showers while serving the homeless.

SERVING WITH CHILDREN?

Are you serving with younger children and deciding where to serve?

We recommend the SPECIAL PROJECT, LUNCH SERVICE OR DINNER SERVICE options. Start with considering what time of day is best for them (morning, early afternoon or evening), and choose your service time/activity accordingly. Your options for children and their parents/guardians that need a shorter timeframe are: 9-11 am or 10-Noon working on a special project during food prep Noon-1:30 pm in lunch service only 5:45 pm - 7 pm in dinner service only

Are you serving with older children that can serve for the full time slot?

Then the FOOD PREP AND LUNCH or DINNER SERVICE is for you!

WHERE DO YOU THRIVE?

Do you thrive in a structured environment?

Then we recommend the FOOD PREP AND LUNCH SERVICE option. Not only will you be instructed what to do, the chef will teach you kitchen safety, basic kitchen knife skills and sanitation standards.

Do you thrive in an ever-changing environment?

Then we recommend serving in the SHOWER HOUSE AND CLOTHING SERVICE volunteer option. We are looking for volunteers with a heart to serve that thrive in an ever-changing environment in our shower house, assisting with cleaning the showers, assisting with laundry and handing out clean clothing.
